Working hard for something we love is called passion. My life is about passion for innovation.

Through an early research career in life sciences I realized that the best way to foster innovation development is fostering new companies, that was the main reason why I reoriented my professional trajectory to start-up investment analysis in the entrepreneurial sector. I consider myself as a tech-transfer enthusiast and a learner of everything involved in this field.

Currently, I support the European Commission as an international expert in the field of innovation and disruptive technologies while continuing my consultant activities at the same time I lead one of the biggest innovation networks in Europe in Barcelona.

After a fellowship at MIT within the Madrid-MIT M+Vision Consortium, I founded NEW BORN SOLUTIONS for the development and commercialization of point of care medical devices to non-invasively characterize superficial body fluids for screening and monitoring infectious and neurodegenerative diseases.

Our first invention is the Neosonics, the first medical device to non-invasively screen for newborn and infant meningitis, lethal if not promptly detected and treated. Our aim is to have an impact in the patient and the market globally and become market leaders through innovation and need-driven solutions.

I am placed at the intersection of science and business. My target is to address social needs through technologies developed by research in the life sciences. My main areas of interest are health and food.

To accomplish this I promote entrepreneurship, technology transfer and communication between science and business. I work with universities, local agencies and other stakeholders to create innovation ecosystems that maximize the impact of their knowledge. I am also a career mentor for scientists moving into business and a mentor for social entrepreneurs in health. My latest project is the development of an antiviral product to prevent neglected infectious diseases. For this I started Àvida Biotech, a company operating in a social entrepreneurship framework.

I trained as a molecular biologist and followed a research career for seven years after my PhD. Various people helped me at each stage, and eventually I ended back in Barcelona hoping to leave the bench and move to science management.

In 2007 I joined the Barcelona Science Park, where I spent seven years, many of them as part of the Board of Directors. I was involved in strategy, sales, consulting and managing a large team of scientists.

In 2012 I participated in the creation of Enemce Pharma, a virtual pharma company. I also co-founded Barcelona Innovation Partners, a consulting company focused on facilitating the creation of innovation ecosystems and technology-based solutions in the life sciences. I am a senior advisor at Inveniam Innovation (now Inveniam Group) and I help social entrepreneurs as a mentor at Ship2B.

I have also devoted quite some time to communicating science, mostly in written form (books, articles), but also through conferences and media appearances. Materials can be found at www.jesuspurroy.cat.

Influencing the healthcare system in the international markets at Mayo Clinic, founder of weallare.Co and innovating with MJN Neuroserveis.

Bachelors in Physical Therapy (UAB) 2014. Master in Biodesign, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (BIOCAT, programme based on Stanford University USA).
International educational experience in Europe, Poland and the Netherlands at Hanze University of Applied Sciences and USA, Johns Hopkins Hospital and Mayo Clinic.

I have participated in different worldwide health care projects such as fundraising events from MISSION:BRAIN to obtain resources for the brain cancer in USA. Passionated of team work, and effectiveness, I had the opportunity to work within an international team obtaining great success of the campaign.

Currently, I work for Mayo Clinic as a business developer in the international markets. Also, I am an entrepreneur keen to innovate in the healthcare sector collaborating with MJN Neuroserveis developing the international science relations and the market strategy of the company and founder of weallare.CO, a first stage startup where design and rehabilitation merged. We have developed SILMA, the first functional glove to protect passive arm prosthetics.

I am eager to innovate and co-create in healthcare to improve our healthcare system influencing our society and caregivers. That is why voluntarily I have created the entrepreneurial and innovation section called FisioEmprèn in the Journal of the Catalan Colleague of Physical Therapy. I am the main editor of the section.

In the future, I aim to be specialised in Public Health and Global Health Policies to raise awareness and inspire behaviour change in patients community, health educational influence, and establish better local and international health country collaborations. My motto is Patients First and I truly believe with collaboration and listening the needs of the patients we will make it!

I always try to embrace entrepreneurial spirit at work. Being exposed to the dynamic changes of industry which implement design management skills to redefine their strategies. With the practical experience in product development and design research, I believe in successful connection of business area, technology and design processes, maintaining sustainable attitude throughout all stages of any projects. One of the key factors of my working vision is to be able to work successfully in different multicultural environments by turning insights into meaningful experiences of future products.
